To maintain professionalism and respect privacy, we have chosen not to reference any specific company by name in this discussion. Instead, where necessary, we use an alias to illustrate claims commonly made in the marketplace regarding far infrared technology.

Our goal is to provide science-backed insights and clarify any misinformation without targeting any brand directly. We encourage consumers to verify claims independently and consult credible research when evaluating far infrared saunas and their benefits.

Problem 1: EMF Concerns – Their Faraday Cage

Claim: SS's fabric blocks up to 99.99% of radio frequencies, providing a stress-free environment.

Reality:

  • This language is designed to scare you into thinking EMFs are a serious problem needing extreme and expensive measures to control.

  • The blocking fabric only works while you're in the sauna, making its effect insignificant. Worse, it traps EMF inside, turning the sauna into an active EMF prison due to the internal electrical components.

Takeaway: Be wary of advertising that uses fear to sell products—look for evidence-based, scientifically sound claims.

Problem 2: The Red Light Bulb – Misleading Capabilities

Claim: The bulb provides full-spectrum infrared light, covering red to far infrared wavelengths.

Reality:

  • A single red light bulb, no matter how well-engineered, cannot effectively produce the full range of wavelengths from red to far infrared.

  • Significant emission of mid and far infrared light requires different technology than what a standard red bulb can provide.

Takeaway: The claim that a single bulb can cover the entire spectrum from red to far infrared is oversimplified and misleading.

Problem 4: The Red Light Bulb – A Flawed Argument

Claim: This company suggests their red-stained glass bulb can generate mid and far infrared light making their sauna a full spectrum sauna.

Reality:

  • The levels of mid and far infrared emitted by such a bulb are insignificant and would be below the practical limits to be considered present.

  • Far infrared wavelengths are generated by more specialized components, not by a simple red bulb.

Takeaway: Don't be fooled by overhyped claims about what a single red bulb can do. Real far infrared benefits require dedicated technology far beyond hand blown light bulbs.

Closing Message:

Choose Evidence Over Hype

When considering infrared saunas, focus on proven benefits and avoid falling for untrue marketing tactics that play on fear and exaggeration. For example, the SS site contains a table titled Types of Saunas, which alleges to compare Finnish, far infrared, and their 'full spectrum' infrared saunas. Here are some immediate, obvious issues:

First, self-labeling their unit as full spectrum is highly inaccurate from a physics standpoint.  Since there is no legal requirement to meet to use such a label, while misleading, they have not broken a law.

Second, they declare their sauna length needed as being less than the other two saunas.  There is no basis in reality for this claim.  Given there is no backing for this whatsoever, it is hard to even consider it an opinion.  Rather, it seems to be included to pander to the convenience segment, who want things fast and easy.

Third, they list their operating costs as low compared to medium costs for a far infrared sauna.  Again, this is simply made up.  It is not based on real time energy and replacement costs.  It is a total fabrication.

Fourth, they describe their heating element as an incandescent light panel which is accurate.  Very low tech, but accurate.  They list far infrared as ceramic or carbon panel FIR emitters.  While this is true for most far infrared saunas; Relax uses a patented semiconductor to generate the far infrared, a step far beyond other FIR saunas and far, far beyond a series of red-light bulbs.

Finally, this company lists their unit as "heats the body directly and deeply," versus the far infrared sauna that "heats only the surface layers of the body.  This is untrue and reverse of the facts.  A true far infrared sauna will penetrate 2 inches into the body vibrating its water molecules versus a bulb sauna emitting some near infrared, which at best would heat the surface level proteins in the skin.

If you are in the market for a true far infrared sauna, then Relax Saunas has a solution perfect for you.
